As we were producing Women Of Dirt Miles came up with this little video he put together at the 2008 WomenzWorx. Thought you all might like it. Women Of Dirt is done and off to DVD Duplication. We are putting together a line of shows that start with the Premiere in Seattle on February 5th. If your ride group or bike shop would like to put on a showing of this film please contact Mark. We have had many people show interest and will have a full schedule shortly.
This video has a lot of things we have seen since our last video blog. There is slopestyle practice and other riding. And PB shows us all how to dance. But, we have kept all the good footage for our DVD - Women Of Dirt. ——— watch video now —-
Monday in Whistler was rainy and with zero events. So, Miles and I went up to the Airdome to check out the situation in the Foam Pit. Brandon Semenuk and others were working on their style and tricks, in preperation for the Slopestyle comp for Saturday. One word, style! And Brandon has it. While the others were working on their trick quiver, Brandon was working on his style. The following video shows him just having fun on his bike. He showed us things that we wouldn’t have ever thought of. The were also a lot of the next gen groms working their stuff out. Enjoy!!
It’s Monday Morning and the rain has come. Whistler has been very dry, so this moisture is giving the trails a much needed perk up. There are no events today, but tomorrow is Women’s Worx and it would be great if the rain stayed away for that event. So far, we have seen the youthful riders come out on top of the experienced riders. Kyle Strait over Brian Lopes in the Dual Slalom, for example. Or, Miranda Miller on top of the Pro Women’s Garbanzo DH. However, there were expected results. Jill Kintner showed why she is one of the most talented gate racers on the planet, by winning the Dual Slalom handily. Sam Hill was on the Garbanzo Podium. Crankworx is proving to be the best bike event on the planet.
Dual Slalom Results:
In the Pro Men category, Kyle Strait took first place, Brian Lopes took second place, Johannes Fischbach took third and Neko Mullaly took fourth.
In the Pro Women category, Jill Kinter finished first, Fionn Griffiths finished second, Micayla Gatto finished third and Melissa Buhl finished fourth.
Life started to show in Whistler as riders arrived on Friday and quickly jumped on the Dual Slalom track to practice for Saturday’s event. This is the first event of Crankworx 2009. The Dual Slalom is to be followed by the Crankworx Block Party MC’d by Darcy Turenne. Whistler Crankworx 2009 is now fully underway.
At this years Crankworx there was yet another new event on the mountain for folks to enjoy. It was a marriage between the huge, fast action of last years 4x, and the tight, flowy party of dual slalom. Giant Bikes stepped up to the alter and produce the two races the Giant Slalom. This year the Kokanee Crankworx took notes from its Colorado counterpart and put a best trick comp into the mix of the infamous week-long mountain bike festival. And it was more than just big tricks and bikes we were treated to a handful of brave kids on their bikes throwing down some of their best tricks out of their quivers. At stake was $6,000. $3,000 for each different section of the boneyard they were riding.
Spaniard Andreu Lacondeguy and Brit Lance McDermott snapped up the top two podium places at CrankWorx Slopestyle 2008 with some of the tricks that captured wins for them in European comps.
Whister local Brandon Semenuk rounded out the podium.
Lacondeguy captured the attention of judges with a double back flip followed by a slew of other stunts on a course that virtually everyone, from riders to media pros, agreed was flowier and perfected for tricks.
Whistler arrival time: Sometime after 3 AM Saturday morning. Mental state: Delirium. Actual time that we started sleeping: Around 5 AM. Wakeup time: Probably way too early.
Since that time, I’ve:
Chatted with Doug from Corsair Bikes (and anxiously awaited the prospect of demoing their Konig).
Scored some insider information from Lance McDermott about his plans for the comp as we chatted inside the fabulous Monster industry lounge located mid-course, which will be perfect for periodic escapes from the heat.
Learned from one of the Monster guys that the actual forecast temperature is 37 Celsius (that’s about 104 Fahrenheit for you Yanks), as opposed to the 35 Celsius forecast I heard. Argh. Looks like I’ll be scoping out shade in the Monster lounge and elsewhere on the course between now and 9ish tonight.
Spoke for seconds with Cam McCaul, who seemed hell-bent on getting up the hill to initiate course domination.
The ‘06 comp as told by the riders. We hear from the riders themselves as to what it takes to win a comp like this one. ‘06 was big, some have said too big!!
