Transition Bikes Demo Day @ The Colonnade

One of the great things about our sport is how every event feels like a family reunion. The Transition Bike’s Demo Day at the Colonnade had exactly this tone. Riders came together under I-5 and put a hurting on the the jumps. Especially, K-line. The lip was built up on the Rainbow Bridge and riders such as Transition’s own Casey Groves were showing the rest of us how to trick a big jump. I admit, I don’t have the ability to throw a back flip over a gap, but my fun was just being there and taking part in a great fall afternoon of bike riding. An in my own way, I improved on my own abilities. It just seemed easier going hard when you are being towed in by some of the best - Mike Metzger, Lars Sternberg. Fluidride Cup 2009 Finals - Results

The final race in the 2009 Fluidride Cup finals has come and gone. It’s raining in Seattle today, but this weekend there was sunshine, wind and a dusty blown out track. Due to chairs falling off the upper lift during practice we ran only from mid mountain. This didn’t make the race any easier. The duff was thick in the corners and the ruts were legendary. Especially, that one off-camber one in the woods above the bridge. Many of you know what I mean. Continue reading ‘Fluidride Cup 2009 Finals - Results’

Steve Peat Finally Wins Worlds

Can you say PEATY!!!

Steve Peat has done it!  Finally after all these years and by 0.05 seconds over Greg Minaar and 0.69 over Mick Hannah.  It came down to the wire but Steve has his World Champion stripes.  The top four riders were all within 0.84 seconds of each other, it was that close.

In the Women’s Elite Finals Emmeline Ragot of France took the Stripes with Tracy Moseley in second and our own Kathy Pruitt taking third.

2009 World Championship DH Practice

Today was one of the nicest days for weather that we have had.  The crowds are starting to role in big.  They are expecting thirty to forty thousand spectators this weekend.  The XC events were in full swing today as well.

Injuries during the practices this week have plagued a few riders.  Andrew Neethling broke his hand, Rennie has tore up his hand as well.  Aaron Gwin took a nasty spill yesterday and is gimping around walking the course today.  Looch has had a few crashes as well, he seems to be fine and was sporting Northwest Flannel during practice.

I believe that flat tires are going to be the undoing of many a rider during the Finals.  I would say that every 20th rider down the hill has flattened during practice.

Martha Hucker World’s 2009 Video

Martha Hucker is a great new website from down under. They follow the women’s scene in Gravity Mountain Biking quite well. Here’s a fun video they put together from the Women’s Downhill Practice at Worlds 2009.

Looch and Greg Go To Worlds

Greg Norman has gone assignment Luciano Worl down under to Australia. Greg has stepped up and made sure that Looch gets taken care of while making the run for Junior Worlds Gold.  But, where there is work helping to put on a race, Greg will find work.  Luciano Worl is representing the US for the first time at Worlds. He rides for Fluidride/Evil. The following are Greg’s Photos and Words.

Hello again, Day 3.

Well we had a beautiful day today, the weather was gorgeous.

I arrived at 6 am to the venue and was immediately put to work with the set up crew setting panels on the start finnish line for the DH/4x course.  By 8 am I was back to parking duties for the Federation Teams.  I am finally starting to get some smiles and laughs from most of the European team coaches and managers.  People still seem to be a little stressed but it is easing a bit.

I finally got up onto the course to take a few shots.  Flat tires seem to be most riders nemesis on the hill.
Plus today was the first day of 4x practice which I took video of, it was a little chaotic.

The photos are of looch, Hill, Minnaar, Peaty, Gee, Riffle and Jared Graves under the Australian flag.

Fluidride Cup 5 Recap

The track was dry and fast, but about as fun as they come. It was great to get a chance to race the King Diamond. Fall line tracks are my favorite for sure. This was the last one of the Fluidride Cup series at Port Angeles for 2009. Bryn Atkinson beat Lars Sternberg, Brad Oien, Kieran Bennett, and J.D. Swanguen to round out the Pro podium.

US National Championships - Results

USNC32.jpg

As many of you know, Miles and I are working on a DVD called Women Of Dirt. We came down to Solvista Bike Park to cover the women of mountain biking going after the national jersey for our movie. We are also shooting a scene in Boulder, CO.  with the Operations Manager of IMBA Tammy Donahugh. She’s  a great dirt jumper. We’ll get this scene for the DVD and a Quickshot video from PUSH before heading back to the NW.

I had a great time at Solvista. The Bike Park staff were the best and helped us have a great experience whenever they could. There were a ton of great riding stories. Many of the racers I ride and race with back home in the Northwest came down to Colorado and killed it. Chelsey Stevens, Darrell Jamieson, Chase Jamieson, and Colin Tobin all took home the National Champion title and jersey.

Jill Kintner got Milissa Buhl back for her Sea Otter win at Dual Slalom and beat her at National Championships at 4x. You’ll see all of this in the Women Of Dirt DVD. Melissa Buhl edged out Kathy Pruitt by .07 in USNC Pro Women downhill. Lisa Myklak in third, then Jacqueline Harmony and Katie Holden. Aaron Gwin got a flat at last year’s National Championships, but this year he won.

This event will be in the same place next year. Put it on your calendar. If you qualify for National Championships you need to go. There were over 1800 race starts. If you were not here, you should have been. Ride On!

US National Championships - Early Thoughts

The mood at Sol Vista has been one of camaraderie and sun. Carnage is the word of the day. The 3 Amigos are clamming their victims and bikes. They are the most moto type of jump I have seen on a DH course. The 4x course is like a Supercross course with moto woops, channels and deep dirt. Watch this video of Mike Kreger running the Pro DH course.

Fluidride Cup # 3 Results

This weekend under sunny sky and with the last patches of melting snow we raced for the first time since 2007 from the top of Ski Bowl at Mt Hood, OR. This is an epic course with 6 distinct zones. JD Swanguen won with a 4:02. There were 270 racers at the start line making this the largest racer count at Ski Bowl according to Greg Aldrich of Ski Bowl.

Video From Are, Sweden

When I saw this video, I was really pumped to go ride. It made me want to buy a ticket to Are, Sweden tomorrow. According to Nolltid.se Niklas Byström video blogs from Åre in both winter and summer season, this is his first bike blog for the year. Video with Jonny “Mr Race” Johansson.

Fluidride Cup #1 Preview Video

This Fox sponsored video shows the Pro/Cat 1 course for the 1st Fluidride Cup of 2009. April 3rd-5th. The course travels down the main trail White Knuckle and across the clearing to Upper Pro Course. Upper Pro Course has be rerouted and drops out below Moto-Guzi to set the racer up for the double into the Woops. After that the racer travels down to the Step-down, followed by a sharp right-left Chicane leading to the Step-Not, into the Camel Hump and down lower Pro Course. There is a special exit this time, as Pro riders don’t have to merge back with White Knuckle. They simple jump the creak and sprint toward the finish berm. This is a fast paced run.

Fox rider Lars Sternberg followed by Casey Northern.
