Wheel Sport East put on a fun and challenging weekend. Two races in a weekend takes ambition for the promoters and the racers. Great Job all. Over half of the racers arrived on Friday to get a jump on learning the courses. If you’d raced Beacon Hill before you didn’t have that much of an advantage. The tape job brought out difficult and exciting lines that perplexed many of the racers.
A great example of a confusing section was the rock hip to berm-less, off camber turn. (This spot is featured in a lot of Carl’s photos below.) The Saturday course ended going down the Dual Slalom course. There were many lines that one could take, but in the end a berm-to-berm line that had the rider jumping lines and staying down the middle was the choice of many racers. Sunday’s line also had many choices down the waterfall. While some of the waterfall lines were obviously faster, in the snow that came down through out the night and up to start time, it became just a matter of how gnarly you were willing to go.
Grass roots racing is about providing all types of riders a chance to step up and own their run. It’s about the community that gathers together in solidarity of a single outdoor activity. It’s about going fast and not feeling bad if you need to back off. It’s about the bike and your relationship with it. This event by Wheel Sport East was all of this. The trails were pimp and creative. Those of you who stayed home and thought about your dollars, deciding it was better to save them to go to next weekend’s Fluidride Cup #1, you may be right, but we had a lot more fun.

In this video Miles’Shovelpick’ Sullivan does a good job at capturing the zany antics mixed with six riding that abounded at this event.
Friday’s Practice:
Mike Metzger and Joe Perizzo took some time off of the course and hit the big booter at the bottom of the runs. Shot of those that came out early to learn both courses.
