I am always looking for story that illustrates the core attitude that makes our sport
of Gravity Mountain Biking rock…
Andy and Pip are ride buddies. I have the privilege to ride with them and consider myself one of their friends. From this vantage point I have witnessed the bond that these two riders have. So, when Andy told me that he was editing together a couple years worth of personal cam footage of he had shot of Pip, I knew that this was going to be interesting. A regular festival of Pipness!
As buddies they push and lead each other to new heights of riding. In fact, it’s this kind of relationship that is the glue of our sport. Everywhere, I ride or race, I see these buddy groups working together to get faster, jump farther or with more style, and build trails that others can enjoy. Andy and Pip are the rule, not the exception to this truth. Their dedication to the sport, they ride more than they sleep, is infectious and it draws the rest of us in to the madness. People talk about the grassroots of the sport. From where I stand, the ride buddy relationship is the grassroots of the sport on which all other aspects grow and take root. In a non-direct way, Bones Over Metal has been all about the ride buddies. Our very first video was with Mike Metzger and Grant Brashers, just one of the many buddy teams I’ve come across doing the work that is Bones Over Metal.
Where there is a buddy team there is always a group of riders. The same is true for this tandem. By riding together they draw others in and those riders draw in more and so on. So by now, if you are not 100% cynical and anti-social to the core, you’ll agree with me when I claim that where two or more riders bond together over the bike there will grow a community of bikers.
Not only is this video respect of a rider by another rider, but Pip and Andy get around. They ride everywhere and hit it all. And this homage to Pip is also a catalog for just about every ride spot in the PNW. So, get your Pip on and watch this video.
