The 2008 Qashqai Challenge has seen the world’s top freeriders hucking on courses in the core of major European cities — Milan, Madrid, Munich, Paris and London.
UPDATE: Northwest rider Phil Sundbaum ended up in the fourth spot in London and sixth overall in the Challenge after several weeks of solid runs — including two 360 tailwhips in London — landed him ahead of some of the usual suspects typically found on slopestyle podiums.
Here are the overall results for 2008:
- Lance McDermott
- Benny Korthaus
- Trond Hansen
- Paul Basagoitia
- Sam Pilgrim
- Phil Sundbaum
- Jamie Goldman
- Martin Soederstrom
- Brandon Semenuk
- Kurtis Sorge
- Adam Hauck
- Andreu Lacondeguy
And here are a few thoughts from Sundbaum about the Qashqai Challenge, Europe and the rest of 2008:
What’s the best thing about the Qashqai Challenge? The worst?
-the best thing is being able to ride in the sickest event of the year … the worst is traveling europe.
How are the courses different in each town?
-the courses are all dirt so they aren’t really too different except for creativity in the layout really.
How are the crowds, compared to North American crowds?
-there aren’t too many events in north america that compare to qashqai, and the crowds there are huge.
What are the best things about European comps?
-the best thing about european comps is that there are tons of them. big or small there always seems to be some type of event going on.
What are your plans for the rest of this season?
-my plans after the qashqai is to ride a few local events in the USA and doing some more Summer of Shred trips.
