Boop, beep, beep, beep, beeep!
Racer brain takes over on that last high pitch beep and like a snapped rubber band the racer is pushed toward the finish line. The weekend began for some riders on Friday the early practice day. The rain was coming down when we arrived, and after the first practice run every hole and crevice of bike and rider was covered and packed in mud and water. But, then the rain stopped as practice ended. The blue sky portended of the great weekend to come. By the time the rain came again, Luke Strobel and Katrina Strand had taken the top spot in the podium for the pros.
There was nearly 300 DH racers registered in this event. That’s huge for a regional race. While the national scene seems to be
fading with the decline of Norba, there does seem to be a bright spot on the horizon. The rumor mill has it that the Norba/NMBS may not be around much longer and that a national circuit may include top regional races. With the apparent success of the Fluidride Cup the local scene is putting itself out there and saying, “We DH and we are strong!”
It was great to see so many people out there. There was a whole bunch of new racers. “Please, keep coming back!” I love to see new interest in the sport. One thing I know for sure, regardless of how good you are, or what you ride, every rider’s passion is just as important as the greatest riders among us. Congrats to Fluidride and Hurricane Racing for putting on such a great race.
